The Atlanta Hawks lost its trusted point guard to a grave hand injury in late February. Consequently, Young missed 20 straight games. While it didn’t affect the team’s postseason berth, the 25-year-old’s return will boost the Hawks’ performance. In the latest episode of From the Point Podcast by Trae Young, the star revealed the timeline of his return. Firstly, he spoke about the injury and its progress. Young said, “I feel good definitely you can see I’m out of my cast from surgery… better than what I’ve been.”  Young also added that he would have been on the court in a week if he didn’t have the point guard duties. Ice Trae further added, “I got another call with the doctor next Monday and hopefully at that point with my rehab… hopefully next week I can make a fist and I can get out of this cast and then I can play.”  With only five games left in the regular season, Young could join his teammates for the last two games. The star was immediately taken off the court and further updates revealed that he would undergo surgery. At the time, the Hawks stood at the 10th seed of the Eastern Conference and the Brooklyn Nets followed them at the 11th seed. Even though the Nets weren’t threatening to chase them down, the Atlanta side had the necessity of keeping the W column ticking. Notably, it was too early to underestimate a team. Especially, when an 11th-seeding team in the West resisting with an 11-game winning streak. However, that wasn’t the case for the Hawks. 27-year-old Dejounte Murray stepped in for the team in Young’s absence. The most impressive stretch was when they defeated the top-seeding Boston Celtics twice in a back-to-back encounter. Murray came out on top, draining a game-winner in a clutch game in a 44-point outing. Hilariously, the star was dragged in for debate for taking 44 shots in that game. In Young’s absence, Murray averaged 25.3 points per game. However, in Young’s presence, the star has averaged only 21 points per game. Once Young returns to the floor, it will further boost the team’s performance and can highly threaten the East in the playoffs. The Hawks have five more games left in the regular season.
